Meet Mykayla

Mykayla Turner holds a Master of Sacred Music degree with a Liturgical Musicology concentration from Perkins School of Theology in Dallas, TX. Under the direction of Dr. Marcell Silva Steuernagel, her thesis research focused on the role of music in rural congregations. She obtained her A.C.C.M. in Piano Performance from Conservatory Canada in 2023. Currently, she is earning a Master of Theological Studies degree from Conrad Grebel University College in Waterloo, ON.

Mykayla is an aspiring church music scholar. She has presented her work at conferences in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Most notably, she was selected as an individual presenter for the Christian Congregational Music Conference, hosted at Ripon College Cuddesdon in August 2023.

Mykayla was the recipient of the Abner Martin Music Scholarship in 2022. She is an active church musician and liturgist in both Mennonite and ecumenical contexts. She has received instruction in piano performance and accompaniment, choral conducting, and liturgical leadership. She also received rudimentary instruction in organ performance. Currently, Mykayla serves as Worship Coordinator for The Church at Nairn, a Mennonite congregation in southwestern Ontario. She also co-directs Ontario Mennonite Music Camp and Menno Youth Ensemble. Currently, she chairs the team of volunteers who maintain Together in Worship, a curated collection of free worship resources from Anabaptist sources.
